Central Passage
Revelation 10:1
Subject
The Interlude between The Sixth and Seventh Trumpets
Description

1. The Preeminence of God’s word.

“Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars.” 10:1

1. His face was like the sun. Describes the Holiness of God.

2. He’s clothed in a cloud, Clouds are often combined with Judgment.

3. He has a rainbow upon his head. This represents God‘s Faithfulness.

“He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land.” v.2

“And he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke. And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down.” vs. 3-4

“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.” Deuteronomy 29:29

“Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven. And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, “There will be no more delay! But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.” Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me once more: “Go, take the scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.” vs. 5-8

“So I went to the angel and sked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, “Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.” v. 9

“Then I looked, and I saw a hand stretched out to me. In it was a scroll, which he unrolled before me. On both sides of it were written words of lament and mourning and woe.” Ezekiel 2:9-10

“And he said to me, “Son of man, eat what is before you, eat this scroll; then go and speak to the house of Israel.” Ezekiel 3:1

“When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God Almighty.” Jeremiah 15:16

A. God’s word is Sweet. It satisfies the soul.

"The law of the Lord is… sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.” Psalm 19:9-10 (NLT)

Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.” 1st Peter 5:8-11

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall.” But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:28-31

B. God’s word is also Bitter.

It reveals the judgment and condemnation for those who do not know God.

“There’s no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1

“I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour. Then I was told, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.” Rev.10:10-11

C. God’s word is to be Eaten.

It must be internalized and digested and absorbed through regular reading, listening and study.

The bottom line is the Word of God must be our Authority.

“The length of our days is seventy years – or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away” Psalm 90:10

“Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12

2. THE PERSEVERANCE OF God’S WITNESSES

“I was given a reed like a measuring rod and was told, “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the worshipers there.” Rev. 11:1

“But exclude the outer court; do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles. They will trample on the holy city for forty two months.” v. 2

“And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophecy for 1260 days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees and the two lamp stands that stand before the Lord of the earth.” v. 3-4

What’s the application of all this for us right now?

God desires for All to be saved. “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2nd Peter 3:9

God holds back judgment for the last one to Repent. For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!” Ezekiel 18:32

We are to Keep on Witnessing even in the midst of strong opposition.
