John 8:1-30
Jesus, Grace Forgiving, Light for Living

Jesus, Grace Forgiving, Light for Living

“Then each went to his own home. But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. At dawn He appeared again in the Temple courts, where all the people gathered around Him, and He sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and they said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.” vs. 7:53-8:4

When it comes to sin: We either, try to Cover it up. We try to Blame someone else.

Some try to Run from it and still others try to Rationalize it.

The best option as a believer is to confess: “I’m still a sinner. I’m still in need of God’s grace.

I haven’t outgrown my need for the cross. I need Jesus’ forgiveness.”

“In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing Him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. vs. 5-6

“If a man is found sleeping with another man’s wife both the man who slept with her and the woman must die.” Deuteronomy 22:22

“When they kept on questioning Him, He straightened up and said to them, ‘If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” v.7

Things we all need to know in order to have and enjoy God’s forgiveness

“Again He stooped down and He wrote on the ground. At this those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.” vs. 8-9

A. You’re not Alone !

For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God! Romans 3:23

We need to remember: Not to be overly Depressed about our sin.

God has enough grace for all of us.

Also don’t become overly Impressed with our sin

It’s not brave to sin. It’s not creative to sin. Sin is the easy way out it is giving in!

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.” 1st Cor. 10:13

“Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.” vs. 10-11

B. You’re not Condemned !

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1

C. God’s Grace is real right now.

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world. He sent Him to save the world.” John 3:17

However, I am Responsible for my sin because of God’s Grace.

He doesn’t give us grace to provide a way to get away with sin.

He does it to provide a way for us to get away from sin.

Look to the one who can make you whole – Jesus Christ.

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

“The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?” Psalm 27:1

It’s a commitment to Follow Jesus.

When we make that commitment, we find the light of life.

“The Pharisees challenged him, “Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid.” v. 13

“Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on My own behalf my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one.” vs. 14-15

He knows where He’s going.

“But if I do judge, my decisions are right, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father who sent Me. In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two men is valid. I am one who testifies for Myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent Me.” John 8:16-18

He’s close to the Father.

“Then they asked Him, “Where is your father?” “You do not know me or my Father, “ Jesus replied. “If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” He spoke these words while teaching in the temple area near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized Him, because His time had not yet come.” vs. 19-20

“Once more Jesus said to them, “I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I go, you cannot come. This made the Jews ask, “Will He kill himself? Is that why He says, ‘Where I go, you cannot come’? But He continued, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins.” vs. 21-24

Jesus has insight and perspective that are out of this world.

As we grow closer to Jesus Christ, we gain Confidence in our direction and Closeness to our Father we get Clarity in our understanding.

“Who are you?” they asked. “Just what I have been claiming all along,” Jesus replied. “I have much to say in judgment of you. But He who sent me is reliable, and what I have heard from Him I tell the world.” They did not understand that He was telling them about his Father.” vs. 25-27

So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man then you will know that I am the one I claim to be and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me. The one who sent me is with me; He has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases Him.” vs. 28-29

Jesus went to the cross, He went to a cross for me, He died for my sin.

“If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.” Luke 9:23

It’s not a onetime debt it’s a daily attitude.

“If anyone does not carry his cross and follow Me cannot be My disciple.” Luke 14:27

The cross changes me, challenges me and as I take up His (now My) cross daily and deny myself, I gain greater commitment for living.

Even as they spoke, many put their faith in Him. v. 30
