John 13:18-38
Subject
Jesus Says Love One Another
Description

What is love?

we know how to love, but Jesus’ question for us is do we do it.

“A new command I give you. Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples if you love one another.” 13:34-35

A new principle I give to you “Love one another, As I have loved you.”

Jesus said, that’s how I want you to love.

Jesus introduces a whole new Quality of love.

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in My love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in His love.” John 15:9-10

1.I need to discover the difference between what I Feel and what I do.

Here is the problem, you cannot command an emotion.

God’s love is the substance in our life.

2. I need to learn the difference between I Should and I Can.

God will never command us to do something He won’t empower us to do.

I need to remember the difference between the Old and New.

As I love. Is based upon love and not fear.

not an old commandment. a new commandment.

Love needs an example that’s greater than itself.

need a foundation that’s stronger than ourselves.

Love needs a purpose higher than itself.

The world knows that this kind of love, is impossible in our human strength.

People don’t naturally act (Love) that way. Something Supernatural is happening.

I begin to Fellowship with other believers.

If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1st John 1:7

We Forgive one another as Jesus forgives us. “Forgiving one another just as God in Christ also forgave you.” Eph. 4:32

C. We Accept one another as Jesus accepts us. Accept one another, then just as Christ has accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. Rom. 15:7

We Sacrifice for one another as He sacrificed for us. “This is how we know what love is. Jesus Christ laid down His life for us and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.” 1 John 3:16

“Husbands love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her. Eph. 5:25

Judas Rejected the love of Jesus. “I’m not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill scripture: ‘He who shares my bread has lifted up his heal against Me.’ I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am He. I tell you the truth, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.” Vs. 18–20

“After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, “I tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray me.” His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant.” Vs. 21-22

“One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to Him. Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, “Ask him which one he means.” Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, “Lord, who is it?” Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.” Then, dipping the piece of bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon. As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. “What you are about to do, do quickly,” Jesus told him, but no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him.” Vs. 23-28

“Since Judas had charge of the money, some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the feast or give something to the poor. As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night.” Vs. 29-30

When it comes to betrayers, they are hard to spot.

They’re not red and they don’t have horns and a pointy tail.

What did Jesus do? He continued to love him for who he could be.

There’s a huge difference between acceptance and approval.

You do not have to approve of everything someone does to accept them.

“When he was gone, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of man glorified and God is glorified in Him. If God is glorified in Him, God will glorify the Son in Himself, and will glorify Him at once.” Vs. 31-32

not how many people know my name.

It’s not how many people I’ve led to Christ. It’s how am I doing at Jesus.

“My children I will only be with you a little while longer. You will look for Me and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now, where I am going you cannot come.” V. 33

“A new command I give to you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples if you love one another.” Simon Peter asked Him, “Lord Where are You going?” Jesus replied, “Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.” Vs. 34-36

Peter Rushed Past the love of Jesus.

“Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow You now? I will lay down my life for You.” Then Jesus answered, ‘Will you really lay down your life for Me? I tell you the truth. Before the rooster crows, you’ll disown Me three times! Vs. 37-38

Jesus says, “Love each other as I have loved you.”
