Understanding my Christian Life
Understanding my Christian Life
GOD’S GOALS FOR MY LIFE
1. I will commit myself to Christ and to my Church Family.
We call this Membership.
“But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household” Eph. 2:13-19
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing, and perfect will. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” Rom. 12:1-5
2. I will commit myself to the Habits necessary for Spiritual Growth.
We call this Maturity.
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.” 2nd Peter 3:18
“For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has

value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” 1st Tim. 4:4-8
3. I will commit myself to using my God-given Gifts, Talents, and Abilities in serving God and others. We call this Ministry.
“The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear-minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:7-11
“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.” 1st Cor. 12:4-6
4. I will commit myself to Sharing Christ with others.
We call that Missions, and it is the Great Commission of the church.
“Go then to all people everywhere and make them My disciples” Matt. 28:19
“But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” – Acts 1:8
HOW CAN GOD USE ME HERE AT TMBC.
How do I find my place at Tucson Mountain Church
A. I Deepen my commitment. It all starts with a personal commitment.
B. I Deepen my understanding. To grow in knowledge.
C. I Discover my ministry. What does God want to do in my life?
D. I develop my leadership skills and abilities to fulfill my mission. Every person has the potential be a leader in some area. Leadership is Influence!
1. IN ORDER TO DEEPEN MY COMMITMENT I NEED TO “Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer. Rom. 12:1
Understanding my Christian Life
A fact of life is we become what we are committed to.
2. TO DEEPEN MY UNDERSTANDING I NEED TO CONTINUE TO…
“Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” 2 Peter 3:18
Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God - what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect. And because of God's gracious gift to me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you should. Instead, be modest in your thinking, and judge yourself according to the amount of faith that God has given you. Romans 12:2-3
3. IN ORDER TO DISCOVER MY MINISTRY… I need to Get involved, Experiment.
“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body – whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free – and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.” 1st Cor. 12:12-13
We have many parts in the one body, and all these parts have different functions. In the same way, though we are many, we are one body in union with Christ, and we are all joined to each other as different parts of one body. Romans 12:4-5
There are three specific things that determine what you do for the Lord: Your spiritual gift, Your passion and motivation in life, and Your temperament.
So we are to use our different gifts in accordance with the grace that God has given us. If our gift is to speak God's message, we should do it according to the faith that we have; if it is to serve, we should serve; if it is to teach, we should teach; Rom. 12:6-7
4. IN ORDER TO DEVELOP MY LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND ABILITIES I need to Try out various areas of ministry to find my Life’s mission.
Understanding my Christian Life
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction.” 2nd Tim 3:16 - 4:1-2,
A. We need to offer Basic training in Christian Beliefs.
B. We need to be teaching the Biblical Character Qualities for Leadership. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Gal. 5:22-23
C. What are the Skills that every leader needs? What are things I need to do? The most important things I believe is every leader in the church needs to know how to lead another person to Christ. Another skill you need to learn is time management. Every leader in the church needs to know what to say to somebody in grief to someone who’s just lost a loved one.
