Sad at Christmas

Remember the excitement that filled you around the holidays when you were a kid? Maybe you waited as the tree was decorated and lit up? Perhaps you took a trip to see Santa or wrote a letter to him? Did you get to decorate Christmas cookies? How many of you got to drive around the neighborhood and see all the houses lit up at night? By now, most of us are looking forward to family and friends getting together to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior. Kids are already looking forward to opening presents on Christmas morning. We all tend get a little giddy in our own way around Christmastime.

Whatever your memories are, as we get older, that excitement often turns in to stress. The holidays don’t fill everyone’s heart with gladness or good cheer or even hope. Everyone doesn’t feel Merry and Bright. Fordifferent reasons, some may feel sad or angry or lonely around the holidays. We miss our grown children that live out of state and have families of their own. Maybe you have lost a loved one around the holidays and it changes everything. Or you are stuck at an airport and can’t get to your family due to weather. Maybe you can’t afford to travel or buy presents or send cards. Perhaps you have no one to enjoy the holidays with. That can be tough.

Jesus is the reason for the season! Christmas is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. He came to this earth and died for our sins on the cross. He loved us that much! So, amongst the presents, cookie decorating, lights, and parties remember that Jesus is the reason for the season! That is something to get excited about!

Please take a moment today to pray for our brothers and sisters struggling this Christmas, whatever the reason. Let us also pray for the people who do not know Jesus. Pray for peace and hope to fill their hearts. Pray for the understanding that they are not alone, and they are loved. Jesus is the reason for the season. Let’s celebrate! Merry Christmas y’all!
