Kids and Prayer

I recently read something on Facebook worthy of sharing. Though I have no idea if it is a true story or not, I loved the outcome and wanted to pass it on. Of course, when searching for it again, I could not find it anywhere, but this is how I remember it.

A woman took her children to a restaurant and her son wanted to pray. He closed his eyes and prayed, ‘God is good, God is great, thank you for this food. I will be even more thankful if we get ice cream after dinner. With liberty and justice for all, amen.” There were a few chuckles from customers within earshot after the cute prayer was finished. One older woman in the restaurant crinkled her face and said loudly that this was what was wrong with kids today- they don’t even know how to pray. Disgusted, she said under her breath, imagine praying for ice cream; that’s not something you pray for! Hmph!

The little boy heard her and started to cry asking his mom if he did it wrong. She assured him that he did not pray wrong, and that God heard his prayer. A moment later, a man came by and winked at the little boy as he stated rather loudly, “I know for a fact that God heard your prayer because ice cream is good for the soul, and everybody needs ice cream once in a while.” With that, the boy smiled and finished his dinner. Of course, mom bought ice cream for dessert.

Here is the part worth sharing…

The server placed the little boy’s ice cream sundae in front of him and his eyes lit up. He glanced at the mean woman who made him cry and did something so sweet, he had his mom crying. He promptly got up and brought his sundae to the table where the grumpy lady sat, placed it in front of her, and said, “I think you need this more than I do. Ice cream is good for the soul and mine is ok today.”
